My interest in photography began when I was eleven years old, after my father gave me our family’s camera. I quickly fell in love with walking the streets of Portland, Maine, photographing people and documenting the environments around me.
Growing up, I struggled with reading. While my peers immersed themselves in chapter books and fantasy worlds, I gravitated toward photo albums and photography publications. As a visual learner, I learned to understand and interpret the world through imagery. Photography became my way of reading, a way of expressing and experiencing stories without words.
My work explores identity, place, and the relationship between people and their environments. Through portraiture and landscape combined, I aim to capture emotion, presence, and narrative, whether in an individual’s expression or the atmosphere of a location. I am drawn to the intimate process of documenting moments in motion and the subtle connections between subject and setting.
I began my college career studying journalism, drawn to the intersection of photography, storytelling, and real-world issues. After volunteering with an NGO, I began working with non-profits to support community outreach and bring visibility to underrepresented voices. I hope to continue developing work in these sectors, using photography as a tool for advocacy and connection.
Beyond photography, I apply these same principles of narrative and identity to other creative mediums, including painting and clothing design. Across all forms, my goal remains the same: to create work that honors story, emotion, and human experience.
